Sneak Peek — Angelo Surmelis Furniture

A speedy sneak peek for you today at Angelo Surmelis’ Furniture line that will launch this summer. Many of you know Angelo as the spirited and warm host of HGTV’s Rate My Space. I know this self-named Design Geek will get on well with us Design Junkies.

Angelo’s collection of about 30 upholstered pieces is dubbed angleo:HOME, MODERN CLASSICS, and includes his Spencer sofa featured in these photographs. He wraps his spunky, sleek shapes in a mixture of fresh, contemporary fabrics and classic leather. Many pieces are scaled down to fit into tight spaces like apartments and small homes.

The complete line will be offered at and prices will range from $249 for a large cocktail ottoman (as big as a coffee table) to $759 for the largest sofa. That’s the total, delivered!

Affordability of quality pieces is extremely important to Angelo. He says, “I wanted to create the type of furniture I have always wanted to own. The kind of stuff where I didn’t feel I was making any kind of compromises in style & quality because I had no money.”

Angelo shares about growing up in a blue collar home with stylish parents who appreciated and craved stylish furniture. “My parents loved all this type of furniture but could never afford it. I did as well but spent many years as a ‘starving art student’ and then ‘struggling creative type.’ This kind of stuff was out of reach.”

The line will be available at starting the first week of July. I’ll have more photos soon and will keep you informed; you can also check out Angelo’s personable blog, The Design Geek .

Angelo has clear goals for the furniture he’s producing. If you were to design a line of furniture, what top three criteria would be important for your pieces?
