Bling Something — Challenge # 3
The aluminum accent tables I posted about earlier were so swell that I thought the Design Junkies should add some similar “jewelry” to our rooms. So this week’s challenge is to Bling Something.
Since the addition of her little sissy, we still have a few to-dos to check off in our tween daughter’s new pad. One is stacks of book storage like her old room. In the meantime, I shoved this flea-market bookcase next to her bed. But it needed some personality. In her aqua and lime palace, silver makes a great accent. So I decided the bookcase was the perfect candidate for bling-ing.
She and I first primed it with a couple coats of stain-killing primer, sanded it, than I hit it with about four thin coats of chrome spray paint (thanks for the suggestion, Casey).
Stylin’ in a Tin-Man-esque sort of way. I never would have thought to do this if it weren’t for the inspiration of the aluminum tables, or frankly that this was for a cool kid’s room; that gave me a free pass on boldness. And that Jo-Bros set likes anything shiny.
Here’s the before and my materials:
So there’s your inspiration. Now Bliiiiing Away. Add a metallic finish to a piece to use in your home decor. Choose the color and medium that moves you–could be chrome, silver, or copper (en vogue with peacock blue). A fairly large piece would be great, but please share with us even a small object if that’s the sparkle you choose to add.
